Dr. Herbranson graduated with a DDS degree from Loma Linda University in 1970 and a MS in Endodontics from Loma Linda University in 1973. He has practiced endodontics in the East Bay since that time.
He has been actively involved in education for years, having given many lectures locally and nationally on endodontics as well as presentation skills and microscope photography. He is on the faculty of the University of the Pacific School of Dentistry and lectures at Loma Linda University School of Dentistry. He is an Opinion Leader for a major endodontic supply company and helped develop their corporate education protocols.
He is nationally recognized in the endodontic field and his interest in photography has resulted in the creation of a small company that builds camera mounts for surgical operating microscopes. Another of his interest is the development of a computerized atlas of the anatomy of human teeth. It has been recognized as a significant tool in learning the complex microanatomy of teeth and is currently being adapted by many dental schools in the United States. Dr. Murphy attended San Francisco State University and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology in 1967. He attended Howard University College of Dentistry in Washington, D.C. and graduated number three out of a class of eighty students in 1972. He completed a three-year residency in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Howard University Hospital in 1975 obtaining a Certificate in Oral Surgery. After thirty years of very successful solo private practice of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in Oakland, he has joined our group multispecialty and general dentistry practice here in Concord. We look forward to serving the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery needs of our dental colleagues here in Contra Costa County.
Dr. Murphy is Board Eligible and a Fellow of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons.
He is a member of the American, Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and the California Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons. He is also a member of the American Dental and California Dental Association.
He resides in the Contra Costa County City of Orinda and has interests and hobbies that include birdwatching, skiing, fishing, hiking, traveling, reading, and community charity work. Dr. Murphy is married and has three adult children.
